What is our Mission?

The San Juan County Economic Development Council seeks to diversify and strengthen the economy of San Juan County and to promote and preserve the overall quality of life of islanders.

The Economic Development Council (EDC) is your source for island business-related information.  The EDC is a business "enabler", linking resources, rendering assistance, and improving conditions for local business.

We do not create jobs; rather, we help build an environment that enables business owners to create jobs.  The EDC is in the information business, and our primary product is knowledge.  With well sourced knowledge; individuals, businesses and governmental policy makers can make decisions aligned with their stated objectives.

Objectives for 2010

The EDC has established the following objectives for 2010:

  • Maintain progress and information generated during 2008 and 2009
  • Closely track local impacts of economic slowdown during 2010
  • Add additional statistics and informational resources
  • Proactively reach out to the business community thru multiple avenues
  • Increase the community's regional & state advocacy.

Agricultural Resources Committee Coordinator

In June of 2009, the Agricultural Resources Committee (ARC) Coordinator joined the EDC to continue serving the Agricultural Resources Advisory Committee of San Juan County as well as to handle economic development projects within the Agriculture Segment of the San Juan County economy.  For details about the ARC, see their website at:  www.sjcarc.org.
